I wish that every school involved with training our country’s future medical professionals would follow what Julie Lepianka is promoting at Cardinal Stritch University. I wish that compassion and communication were the natural models because every one of us will face our own time in a hospital, whether as patients ourselves or watching over people we love dearly.

Julie has helped me to grow in my faith personally and has also shaped the way I provide quality patient care. I look up to her not only as a nurse, but also as a person. She is a constant reminder of why I chose to be a nurse. Julie has taught me that every person has a story to share, and to search for the person behind the diagnosis.  Julie has taught me simply saying, “Now is the time we focus on you, and what you want” we are able to gain insight into a totally different patient. This enables us to provide the spiritual care the patient longs for, but also deserves.

Julie is energetic and engaging in her presentations, of which I have seen several. She speaks on a range of healthcare-related topics. She is very comfortable speaking with intimate as well as large audiences. Julie has extensive knowledge of the subject matter and very effective techniques which she customizes to the group she is addressing. I continue to hear comments from numerous attendees on what a good presenter she is.

I was honestly so moved by Julie’s authenticity and energy. Our program needs more opportunities to learn from experts in such an engaging way!

Being upfront and honest was SO valuable to me during Julie’s presentation. It helped me to feel more comfortable to open up more and also be more honest with myself.

Make it longer because I loved Julie’s presentation. I could have listened to her all day. I really liked the “realness” of the entire presentation.

Julie hit a home run. Her talks, thoughtful and from the heart, were both emotional and compelling. Her personal stories made our students truly reflect. This opened the door for many, many conversations which truly helped our students and their friends.

There is no speech more powerful that personal stories, especially when they are replete with pain as well as healing. Julie truly inspires young men and women… she does it beautifully.

I was recently hospitalized and was cared for by one of Julie’s students. This student’s compassion, kindness, humility and care truly touched me. After I was discharged from the hospital, I actually drove to the university to tell the Dean about my experience. In the end, I decided to fund a scholarship to help this student with her nursing education. When someone cares in the way she did, she deserves to be recognized and supported in her efforts.

I LOVED how engaging this class was. It was so much better than simply listening to someone speak. Julie gave us time to self-reflect and practice communication skills. This made the teaching really come alive because I could apply what I learned.

Very interesting! I didn’t expect to learn so much about myself, but Julie’s stories allowed me to see my story in hers. I cannot believe how much I learned about myself in just one hour!
